We are proud to announce that Philadelphia Business Journal has named Red Spark one of the Best Places to Work in the Greater Philadelphia area in 2018! The winners of this honor are chosen by positive employee feedback. Here’s what makes Red Spark one of the best places to work:
Our employees are not just cogs in the machine. At Red Spark, we value the individual, not just the work they do. And that starts with making sure our employees are happy and healthy. While a majority of our team chooses to work between 9am and 6pm, our work hours are flexible and can be changed to better suit the needs of the employee. We also offer the option to work from home, if needed. You never know when you’ll get sick or an emergency might come up. We want our employees to feel supported, and sometimes that means being flexible.
The perks are endless at Red Spark! Not only do we have a fully stocked kitchen with plenty of tasty snacks to keep our team fueled, but we also have delicious catered team lunches on Monday for all to enjoy. Red Spark also covers our employees’ favorite music streaming service, as well as their gym memberships! We hold engaging monthly birthday and anniversary celebrations and always have an exciting quarterly outing to celebrate our successes. Some of our past quarterly outings have included a Phillies tailgate, a minigolf competition at Keystone Minigolf, and our always fabulous Holiday Party.
Yup, we really do like each other as much as it looks like on our Instagram. When we’re not at the office, odds are you can find a group of Red Sparkians out and about in Philly together. Whether it be enjoying some ice cream at Franklin Fountain, throwing axes at Urban Axes, or just grabbing dinner and drinks in Center City, our team loves to spend time together! We even organized a Red Spark Friendsgiving to give thanks and chow down on some homemade goodies together as a team.
Supportive and Make an Impact are a part of our core values for a reason. At Red Spark, we know that when one person succeeds, we all succeed. Our team is always ready to help another teammate facing a challenge. No matter what issue you’re having, you can be sure to find your fellow teammates ready to lend a helping hand.
We have a strict “No Red Tape” policy here. As Red Spark continues to grow and shift, we know that every voice in the room is incredibly important. We want to be the best we can be, and that only works if we hear and value everyone, from Accountants to Software Engineers.
There’s a reason why our diverse team of ad tech wizards, innovators, and colorful creatives love working at Red Spark. Not only do we have endless opportunities to build and better the future of digital, but we’ve also found the key to achieving a work-life balance. How? We’ve mastered the ability to relax and disconnect inside and outside the office. Because as spirited and energetic as we are about turning raw data into actionable insights and creating useful products for publishers and advertisers, we relish relaxation!
We may not have the “right to disconnect,” a new law passed in France that allows employees in large companies to ignore emails after normal work hours, but we do have thrilling benefits. Here’s how we keep our talented super squad at the top of their game and always ready to take on the day.
Sometimes a little time off from your daily grind is all you need to recharge, so to make sure our team can fulfill that sense of wanderlust or spend some time alone or with family, each employee is offered 25 (PTO) days of paid time off. That’s five whole work weeks to treat ourselves as we wish! Bangkok, Iceland, Maui, you name it, and someone from the Red Spark family has probably been there.
“I can take the whole family to Disney in January, take my husband to the islands in March for his birthday, go hiking in Colorado in June, camp in August, and still have vacation time left over to enjoy a surprise birthday trip from my hubby in November!” says IT administrator Nikki White.
Having the time to let our hair down allows us to come back to work feeling refreshed and recharged.
It may seem crazy, but we love Mondays. That’s because every Monday afternoon, we indulge in a buffet-style lunch catered by our favorite Philly eateries – for free! Our hungry team has had everything from create-your-own tacos and savory barbecue to all types of salads and French toast for brunch. Seconds after the announcement is made, we mirror the hustle we use while working to break for fuel and conversation with our colleagues. Plus, our kitchen is always stocked with coffee, fresh fruit, cold beverages, healthy snacks, and little treats to cure our sweet cravings.
“Our office kitchen is a great place to get together with coworkers to discuss work projects or weekend plans,” says Lauren Wiener, a senior client success manager. “Our Monday catered lunches are a delicious bonus!”
If you’re not listening to music, you’re doing it wrong – at least that’s what we think. When you step inside our office, you’ll hear everything from 90s hits and movie soundtracks to hip-hop and folk rock radiating from the sound system. And it’s not from the radio – each song is selected from our team members through our open-source Slack channel called Musicbot.
“Musicbot gives me the opportunity to express my musical interests, and when I hear the songs I love, it inspires me to hone in on my daily tasks and #gsd!” says Kellee Liverani, our office coordinator.
And as if that’s not enough, each employee is offered a free monthly subscription to the hottest music streaming services.
After summoning our fierce work ethic to meet our quarterly goals, we come together as a company outside of the office on a planned excursion in the city to commemorate the sharp skills that make us ad tech leaders. There’s no better way to experience the city and let loose than by knocking down pins at South Bowl or watching the Phillies run around the bases!
“Quarterly outings give me the opportunity to learn more about the coworkers that I don’t get to work with on a daily basis and explore new places in the city,” says senior software engineer Jeff Segall.
Eight ball, corner pocket! That’s right; the Red Spark office has a pool table (ping pong too). Friendly competition between coworkers is nothing out of the ordinary here.
“It’s great to work in a place where you can shift from working on some exciting new challenge to beating your boss in pool while drinking a beer without ever leaving the office,” says Steve Dorazio, a software engineer manager.
Our coworkers love grabbing a cold one from the fridge and mastering the tables at the end of the day. It’s not too often you find employees who don’t want to leave the office.
You know you’re ready for a career change. You’re passionate, professional, and eager to join a team that has the same innovative spirit as you do. But where do you start? If you’re looking to advance your career (and have fun while doing so), we want you to join our team. Since we know change is never easy, here are some questions to ask yourself before you take the leap.
At Red Spark, we never stop learning. That’s why you can never ask too many questions here. Those questions could turn into an awesome hackathon project or way to innovate our office.
“When I first came to Red Spark it was really great to be around a group of people who asked just as many questions as me and were passionate about what they were talking about,” says Senior Content Writer, Gillian Francella.
It’s not always about reinventing the wheel–sometimes it’s about making it better, faster, more efficient than before. That’s why we encourage all of our employees to share ideas they think will make our company stronger.
“To take an issue and be able to solve it with a creative idea is really rewarding,” says Lead Account Manager, Samantha Grillo.
Whether you’re stuck on a part of a project, a piece of code, a delicate word choice, or the coffee machine just ran out of beans, help is just a Slack message or step away! The Red Spark team loves a challenge, and getting unstuck is our specialty.
“After resolving a series of compatibility issues, I was stuck on one that really had me stumped,” says Senior Associate Technical Content Manager, Ashley Feucht.
When teammates noticed her frustration they were the first to help her identify the problem and pinpoint who would be able to help her through.
“[They] helped me identify the problem, which ultimately lead to a resolution and restored my sanity!”
We encourage every individual to be a trailblazer. No matter your title or team, Red Spark employees have opportunities to take the lead on their own ideas and see them through. We love calling our teammates out for the positive impacts they make.
"Not all minds think alike - and we're thankful for that! Differing viewpoints ultimately help to create a better and stronger team," says Senior Manager for Audience Drive, Emily Tobia, who encourages her own team to come up with impactful ideas. "We love seeing employees get excited about their ideas and work rigorously to see them through to completion. Having the ability to make an impact every day is empowering!"
This is a fast-paced work environment where we're constantly innovating. You can bet you'll never be watching the clock here. Timing is crucial, especially in tech, and Red Sparkians are recognized for driving innovation at a fast pace.
Data Scientist, Joe Matusik, understands first-hand how important it is to not let formal processes slow you down. "At Red Spark, your priorities may change daily, but the team works together quickly and efficiently to ensure projects continue to move forward. From a developer perspective, sometimes the only delay in getting your idea deployed is the time it takes for you to create the PR."
Many teams at Red Spark work closely together and collaborate daily, so it's imperative to communicate clearly and concisely. Closely working teams have daily stand-ups to ensure that everyone's on the same page about priorities and goals. We believe that open communication is essential in getting any stucks unstuck!
"Clear communication is a key to success at Red Spark. Being able to succinctly present your ideas with sound reasoning is critical for the product team. We collaborate with engineering and stakeholders early and often to understand their needs so we can be sure we’re accomplishing company goals," says Senior UX/UI Designer, Brandon Sax.
Being surrounded by people who are excited about what they do fuels our determined team. From programmers to writers, analysts to accountants, Red Spark is full of people who are passionate about what they do.
“We consistently bring out the best in each other regardless of circumstance,” says Senior Legal Analyst, Marybeth Heller. “Without passion, without that fighter, there is no #GSD.”.
We know you’re more than your job description. If you’re ready for a career that gives you the opportunity to jump headfirst into game-changing projects that will challenge you and help you grow professionally–this is the place for you.
When a simple task turned out to be more than he expected, CMS developer Bob D’Errico met it with an agile perspective.
“I had to change course several times as I discovered a better way to accomplish my goal,” he says. “Once I accomplished my goal, I felt satisfied in the knowledge I had gained in the process.”
Our roots are in the community, which is why we like to make sure we support organizations in the area by donating to toy drives, sponsoring learning experiences, or supporting local charities.
Our #sparkgiving campaign asks employees for suggestions of non-profits and causes that could use our help.
“The beauty of #sparkgiving is how connected our employees are to the causes we support,” says Executive Assistant and Office Manager, Kate Carpenter. “We are a diverse group in a diverse city and Red Spark gives to charities that are selected by our very own!”
Collaboration is necessary for success, and we are always looking to expand our team with good team players who jump at the opportunity to work with someone new.
“We work with our engineers, business development, account managers, and stakeholders to build the best products we can in an efficient manner, and we want to make sure those teams have all the tools they need to get stuff done,” says Senior Designer, Dave Ridilla.
At Red Spark, we like to recognize one another for the hard work we do. When someone goes beyond their daily duties to help another team out we recognize them with a callout on our company Slack channel.
“A business has many moving parts; when you’re recognized for adding value to that larger process you gain a stronger sense of ownership of your successes,” says Senior Software Engineer, Bryan Wagner.
We encourage team members to exercise their bodies and minds, which is why we keep our Fitness Lounge stocked with all the equipment you need to take a break and work out any kinks.
“I will get stuck trying to solve something and I just walk away, go to the gym, and then when I come back I see the solution within a few seconds,” says Software Engineer Manager, Marcus McCurdy. “Problems can be seductive and they draw you in too close and then you can’t find your way out until you separate yourself from it.”
Each day at Red Spark brings something new, but the one constant is the fun we get to have on a daily basis. Catered lunch on Mondays, a sweet view of the city from your office window, a playlist that won’t quit, products that are changing the industry–not to mention all the talented people you get to work with–if this sounds like your dream job, jump to our careers page and apply for one of our open positions today!
